Wesley Whittier Batcheler

Wesley Whittier Batcheler, age 88, a former resident of Bronaugh, died Monday, Nov. 27, at Parkview Heights in Garnett, Kan. He was born on Sept. 13, 1929, in Hartley, Iowa, the son of Nathan and Clara Deering Batcheler.

He owned and operated his own farm in Bronaugh for most of his life. He enjoyed farming and ranching, and could often be found watching over his cattle. He was a good dancer of various styles. Wesley loved to spend time with his family, often cooking for them on the grill. He was a member and past president of the Lions Club in Fort Scott and a member of the Maple Grove Church in Peterson, Iowa.

Survivors include his companion, Vickie Hendry, Alba, Mo.; children, Karen Anderson and husband Michael, Grants Pass, Ore., and Dennis Batcheler and wife Patty, Lamar; a sister, Alliene Stierwalt, Wilkesboro, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Nathan Edmonds, Shannon Batcheler, Andrea Anderson, Josey Butler, Thomas Edmonds, Christopher Anderson and Melanie Anderson; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Edmonds; a granddaughter, Angie Karleskint; and a sister, Phyllis Kettleman.

There was cremation. The Rev. Chuck Russell will conduct memorial services at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m., Thursday at the Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O.
