Lloyd Merl Pritchett 87, Independence, Mo., passed away Dec. 2. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Lakewood Way Community Church, 1150 NE Woods Chapel Rd., Lee’s Summit, MO 64064.

Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the church sanctuary.

Lloyd was born Jan. 29, 1930, in Sheldon. He was a U.S Army veteran. He retired from the city of Independence water pollution control after 20 years of service. Previously he worked at Standard Home Improvement as a carpenter for many years. He was a member of the Lakewood Way Community Church where he helped lead the Upward Bound senior citizen program.

Lloyd was often referred to as the music man. He learned to play the mandolin at age 13 and soon learned the fiddle as well. He played and sang in his family band and also had a band in the Army. He continued to play and sing for many years at venues and nursing homes across Missouri.

Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sheridan and Laveda Mae Pritchett; sister, Freda Mae Norwood; three brothers, Bob Pritchett, Ben Pritchett and Charlie Pritchett.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joanna Pritchett, of the home; sister, Rose Marie Mullins, St. Charles, Mo.; son, Merlin Pritchett and wife Dee Dee, Independence, Mo.; three daughters, Marilynn Jungmann and husband Paul, Independence, Mo.; Lisa Dolan and husband Jim, Blue Springs, Mo.; Hazel Larson and husband Joe, Grain Valley, Mo.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
