Robert A. Hedges

Robert A. Hedges, age 90, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 4, at Lake Stockton Healthcare in Stockton. Robert was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Milo to Owen and Zelma (Houth) Hedges. On July 27, 1950, he was married to Helen M. Floyd and she preceded him in death on July 19, 2006.

Robert attended the Fern School and the Milo School until the age of 16 when he left home to go to work in Kansas City. Robert joined the United States Air Force as soon as he turned 18 in 1945. He received his basic training at Shepherd Field, Wichita Falls, Texas. Robert served in Occupied Germany during the Berlin Air Lift. In 1949 he returned to the United States and served the remainder of his enlistment at the Desert Chemical Depot near Salt Lake City, Utah. Robert was discharged from the service in 1951 at which time he and Helen returned to Vernon County to farm with his father for a time. He then went to work as a mechanic for C.A. White Motors and later for Wysong Motors in Nevada. In 1967 Robert purchased and operated a dairy farm which he continued to operate until he retired in 1993. Robert liked to tinker in his shop where he worked on vehicles and machinery. He also enjoyed gardening, and mowing, keeping up with the latest technology.

Robert is survived by his three children, daughter, Barbara Hedges, of Milo, two sons, Bill Hedges and his wife, Debby, of Nevada, and Brian Hedges and his wife, Liz, of Stockton, six grandchildren, Paula Fleury and husband Chris, Derek Hedges, Chris Hedges, Aaron Hedges, Levi Hamersley and wife, Ayumi, and Austen Hedges; one great-grandson, Andre Fleury; one sister, Martha Maness, Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Helen, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, David Hedges; and his beloved dog, Scooter.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, at Ferry Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Milo Cemetery, Milo. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
