Linda Dianne Matlock

Linda Dianne Matlock, 64, of Nevada, passed away Monday, Feb. 5, at Nevada Regional Hospital.

Linda was born July 31, 1953, in Jacksonville, N.C., the daughter of Donald Alfred and Anne Mae (Oliver) Shaw. She was proud of being a military child and spoke frequently of the many places she lived around the country. Her family settled in the Kansas City, Mo., area where she graduated from Southwest High School in 1971.

Upon graduation, she pursued many different careers including as a CNA, an activity director, a small business owner, and an administrator in the manufacturing industry. Her favorite career was teaching arts and crafts. She enjoyed teaching all types of arts and crafts: ceramics, painting, crocheting, knitting, quilting, needlepoint and sewing. Late in her career, she earned an Associate of Occupational Studies Degree from Vatterott College with an emphasis in business. She retired as a bookkeeper from a Nevada processing and distribution plant.

Linda was very active in the Nevada Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie No. 3770. She was involved in the annual fundraising efforts for Children’s Mercy and was a familiar face always stepping in to help with events and activities. She was most proud of serving as Past Madam President of the Auxiliary. She also traveled to other aeries throughout the region building a wide network of friends.

Linda is known for putting others before herself. She had a helping and serving spirit treating everyone like family. In her leisure time, she liked to dance, spend time with her children and grandchildren, play with her many animals, sit on her front porch and share memories with her family and friends.

Linda is survived by three children, daughter, Dianne Clark (Robert), Peculiar, Mo.; son, Roger Alan McCale Jr. (Cristy), Olathe, Kan.; daughter, Mollie Chapman (Nathan), Nevada; five grandchildren, Alexander Meissen, Laura Meissen, Christian Clark, Ryan McCale and Leland McCale; and many more extended family and treasured friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Nevada Fraternal Order of Eagles. A service will be held at her final resting in the Peculiar Cemetery in Peculiar, Mo., at a later date.
