Sheldon drops GVVC contest to Montrose

Wednesday, April 4, 2018

It’s been a tough start to the season for the Sheldon Panthers baseball team.

A 12-2 five-inning loss to visiting Montrose on Monday, dropped the Panthers to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the Golden Valley Vernon County Conference.

Sheldon trailed early, as Montrose plated eight runs in the top of the first.

“We had a tough first inning,” noted third-year Sheldon head coach, Matt Beatty. “But we played really well the second through fifth innings.”

Added Beatty: “It is very difficult to overcome an eight-run deficit. The team showed an overall improvement with hitting the ball last night. A lot of the players who have been struggling were hitting the ball.”

For the Panthers, second baseman Dominic Goforth finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Bryce Lamb went 1-for-3 with a stolen base. On the mound, Sheldon starter Brett O’ Connor tossed 2.1 innings, while relief pitcher Zavery Lamb fanned six over three innings of work.
