Ronald Lee Farmer, 69, Nevada, passed away on Thursday, April 12, at Freeman West in Joplin following a brief illness. Ron was born Oct. 9, 1948, in Nevada to Dennis Edmond and Anna Ruth (Williams) Farmer. On July 23, 1971, he married Rhonda K. Peterson in Nevada and she survives of the home.

Ron grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School Class of 1966.

Following high school, he served in the United States Army from May 27, 1968, to May 26, 1970, during the Vietnam War, and then an additional four years in the U.S. Army Reserves. He worked for 3M in Nevada for 38 years until his retirement on Dec. 31, 2015. Ron was a lifetime member of B.P.O. Elks No. 564 in Nevada. He was an avid golfer, bowler, loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his wife Rhonda, survivors include two children, Kimberly Dayle Vandiver and her husband Mark, St. Louis, Mo., and Ronald Lee Farmer Jr. and his wife Alicia, Bella Vista, Ark.; five grandchildren, Zacharey Ryan Vandiver, Phoebe Madison Vandiver, Ashlyn Paige Farmer, Breckyn Claire Farmer and Miles Andrew Farmer; and one brother, Donald Wayne Farmer and his wife Carol, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Steve Russ officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
