BOLIVAR — Braeden Hinton was flat-out dominant Monday against Bolivar.

The Nevada High School senior’s complete-game gem, lifted the Tigers to a 2-0 non-conference road victory over Bolivar.

Hinton (3-1) allowed just four hits, while striking out eight over seven innings of work.

Needing an efficient 91 pitches to secure the complete-game victory, Hinton was able to consistency locate his fastball down in the zone.

“Braeden did a great job on the mound,” said Nevada head coach Danny Penn. “He took advantage of a wide strike-zone, and got some batters to chase. He’d probably tell you he didn’t have his best stuff, but he competed and did what his team needed.”

Nevada sophomore right fielder Grant Miller broke open a scoreless game in the seventh, with a two-out, two-RBI double down the left field line.

“We had some really good at-bats in the seventh,” noted Penn.

Those at-bats included Jarrett Owen’s one-out single up the middle, and Dalton Gayman’s 15-pitch at-bat, resulting in a walk.

“(Dalton) did a great job of spoiling pitches, time after time,” explained Penn.

Designated hitter Clay Gayman then moved runners into scoring position via his ground out to the right-side — setting the stage for Miller’s two-out heroics.

“Grant’s double was with a two-strike count,” recounted an elated Penn.

Penn, however, said his squad’s early-inning offensive struggles continued.

“The same wide zone that benefitted Braeden on the bump, caused us some troubles,” he said. “We were slow to adjust to it, and took some called third-strikes that we should have tried to spoil. We put some good swings on pitches, but most of them hung up in the air in the outfield.”

For Nevada (4-5), both Peyton Denney and Logan Armstrong collected two hits apiece.

Nevada’s junior varsity team was also in action, falling to Bolivar, 2-1.
