Leta “Fae” Shelton

Wednesday, June 20, 2018

Heaven was blessed on Sunday, June 17. Leta “Fae” Shelton passed with peace and grace at her home with loved ones at her side. Fae was born on Aug. 2, 1932, to Neal “Pat” and Fannie (Ricketts) Goddard. She has one surviving sister, Alice Allen, Fort Scott. Fae was preceded in death by Jim Goddard, Marvin Goddard and Ina Wilson. Fae will be lovingly missed by her husband of 64 years, Marvin Shelton; her children, Terry Shelton, of Gulf Shores, Ala., Tom Shelton and Dave Shelton, of Stotesbury, and Beth Clines, of Fort Scott. Fae was cherished by 10 grandkids and 21 great-grandkids.

Fae went to school in Richards where she played basketball and graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 1950. After graduation she went to work for Thornton National Bank of Nevada, then Citizens Bank of Fort Scott, and later Key Work Clothes in Fort Scott. In 1962 the Shelton’s bought the local grocery store in Stotesbury, renaming it Marvin and Fae Grocery. Fae went to work at the Village Market in Nevada in 1968. After 26 years of devoted service, she retired in 1994.

Enjoying retirement, she took up crafts and went camping with her favorite duo, Fred and Alice Allen. Some of her passions included gardening, flowers and birds, especially Hummingbirds and Orioles. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family. Leta Fae was a member of Richard’s Christian Church and Stotesbury Grange Hall.

The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 22, also at Ferry Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Mosher officiating. Interment will follow in East Liberty Cemetery in Stotesbury.

Donations may be made in her memory to East Liberty Cemetery in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Special thanks to the Heartland Hospice Services in Butler for all your care and compassion.
