William Calvin Smith

William Calvin Smith, 81, Sheldon, Mo., passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, in Nevada. William was born on Dec. 16, 1936, in Liberal, Mo., to William Franklin and Mabel Edna (West) Smith. He married Virginia Louise Spillman on June 30, 1963, in Greenfield, Mo., and she survives of the home.

William was raised in Liberal and was a 1955 graduate of Liberal High School. He was a farmer and raised dairy cattle. William never met a stranger and was quite a storyteller. He enjoyed going to auctions and reading the newspaper.

In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by his two daughters, Amy Miler and her husband, Randy, Lamar, Mo., and Karla Barrett and her husband, John, Amoret, Mo.; four grandchildren, Adrian Miler and William “Will” Miler, both of Lamar, Shantez Smith, Nevada and Sabrina Barrett, Amoret; siblings, Marvin Smith and his wife, Betty, Liberal, and Marlin Hunter and her husband, Richard, Littleton, Colo.; nieces, nephews; and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, John James Barrett; and brothers, Norman and Melvin Smith.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 30, at Barton City Cemetery, Liberal, Mo., with the Rev. Bill Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 29, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
