Nevada spikers trump Clinton

The Nevada Lady Tiger volleyball team bounced back from four losses over the weekend at the Pittsburg (Kan.) varsity tourney — dispatching the visiting Clinton Lady Cardinals in a two-set victory Tuesday night at Wynn Gym.

The Lady Tigers dominated the first set, coasting to a 25-11 triumph. The second set was much tighter, with Nevada prevailing 25-22 in the non-conference matchup.

After opening the season with seven consecutive victories, Nevada absorbed four losses in Pittsburg on Saturday, but still walked away with a pair of victories.

Nevada (10-4) opened with a three-set 24-26, 25-19, 28-30 loss to host Pittsburg. The Lady Tigers were then upended in two sets (23-25, 17-25) by Carl Junction. In their third match Nevada fell to Carthage 13-25, 18-25. Nevada then bested Paola (Kan.) 25-19, 25-21. The Lady Tigers were then tripped up by Carl Junction in three sets 27-25, 20-25, 13-25. In their second meeting with Pittsburg, the Lady Tigers came out on top — 25-18, 25-23.

Tourney stat leaders for Nevada included Adrian Bond, 67 digs and 47 kills; Hailey Jackson, 136 assists; Sydney Ernsbarger, 39 kills and 34 blocks; and Lani Coonrod, 65 digs and nine aces.
