Nancy Jane Laning

Nancy Jane Laning passed away on Sept. 22, 2018, at the age of 70. She was born Nov. 5, 1947, to Harland and Norma Swope in Carbon Center, Mo. She attended all 12 years of school in Rich Hill, graduating in 1965.

Nancy lived in Wichita, where she was a wife and soon became a mother. She moved back to her hometown where she resided until 1986, then moved to Nevada and resided there the rest of her life. She held many jobs throughout her life, some of her favorite places to work were Aries Insurance, Swope’s Drive-In, Farm and Home, and 3M, retiring in 2002. After retirement she enjoyed spending her days with her granddaughter Carlie, a.k.a “Miss Peas.”

Things she enjoyed in life were spending time at Stockton Lake with good friends, taking mother-daughter trips, spending time with her grandkids, volunteering at the soup kitchen, playing cards, wine time, and of course spending time shopping with the ladies.

She is survived by her three girls, Brenda Wethington and husband, Carlos, of Rich Hill, Patricia Bennett and husband, Rick, of Nevada, and Teresa Isaacson of Nevada; four grandchildren, Dallas Jennings and wife, Suzanne, of Rich Hill, Cody Bell of Nevada, Kyle Bennett of Nevada, and Carlie Wethington of Rich Hill; her stepgrandchildren, Mandy Jones, Matt Bennett, Kirstin League, and Genna Wethington; 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her siblings: Bud and Mary Jean Swope, Linda and Mike Tyrrell, Carol Culver, and Don and Linda Swope.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harland and Norma Swope; two sisters, Donna Gale Shoemaker and Mary June Williams; and one niece, Kelly Dawn Swope.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept, 26, at Rich Hill Christian Church in Rich Hill, with Pastor Barrett Case officiating. Visitation is planned for Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., at Heuser Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested in her memory to the Rich Hill Christian Church Special Fund.
