Johnny “John” Allen Shrewsbury

Funeral services for Johnny “John” Allen Shrewsbury, 76, of Gilmer will be held at 10 a.m., today, in the chapel at McWhorter Funeral Home with Brother Marion Palmer officiating. Interment will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 15, at Moore Cemetery in Nevada, Mo. The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12, at the funeral home.

John was born on Sept. 14, 1942, in Nevada, Mo., to John and Ruby Barker Shrewsbury and passed from this life on Oct. 9, 2018, in Gilmer, Texas.

On June 5, 1965, John married Judith Ellen Baker and she preceded him in death in September 2008. John worked as a meat cutter for many years before starting his career as a truck driver. He proudly had 35 years of sobriety through A.A.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judy Shrewsbury; and by his daughter, Aletha Shrewsbury.

Survivors include his sons, Johnny Shrewsbury, Lonnie Shrewsbury, and Mark Shrewsbury. He is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ernie Maples, Garry Scarborough, Artie Gunn, Jack Johnson, Bennie McFarland, Harry Fischer, David Osterman, Ricky Case, and Eugene Boyd.
