Approximately 200 people attended Saturday’s biscuit and gravy showdown with over $2000 raised for the Nevada unit of Habitat for Humanity. The early morning bout featured gravy-making rivals Dangerous Driven David Ferry and Bold and Brutal Bill Cox in what was supposed to be a final throw down to decide, once and for all, which of the two prepares the tastiest sausage gravy dish. Sometimes, even the best laid plans...

According to some in attendance, the results were as amusing as the challenge itself. “The community turnout was a great example of neighbors getting together to support one another, enjoy a delightful breakfast and catch up on holiday plans,” said Constance Beaver. “The results of the judging were also entertaining. Since the early judges voted in favor of Dangerous Driven David Ferry but the later voters favored Bold and Brutal Bill Cox, the official verdict declared the showdown a tie. The sound of laughter could be heard from the kitchen and all through the dining room. It was apparent that all who came out enjoyed event.”

“A whopping $2,162 was donated for the opportunity to taste the biscuits and gravy and tease the chefs,” Beaver continued. “The recipient of the donations made by the diners is the Nevada unit of Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian organization which builds and sells simple decent housing to people willing to partner with the group to improve their lives and the community in which they live. Habitat’s goal is to eliminate substandard housing throughout the world.”
