Deborah Cathleen Baker

Friday, February 22, 2019

Deborah Cathleen Baker, 50, of Nevada, Mo., departed this life and went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 19, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Cathy was born March 15, 1968, in Albany, Mo., the daughter of Jerry and Sue Beisner. Cathy married Rick Baker on June 24, 1989. They would have celebrated their 30th anniversary on June 24, 2019. To this union three children were born.

Cathy gave her heart to the Lord and was a shining example of Christ’s Love. Cathy attended the Church of God Holiness as long as her health permitted. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and grandmother to her granddaughter Ilya Cate.

Cathy graduated from Nevada High School and received her degree in pharmacy from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Cathy loved being a geriatric pharmacist at the family owned business, Wilkinson Pharmacy, for over 26 years. She devoted her life to her career and her family.

Cathy loved going on cruises with her family and friends. She also enjoyed ski trips with her family in Colorado. As a child growing up she enjoyed spending weekends at the family lake cabin and as an adult she enjoyed spending weekends with her family and her father, Jerry Beisner on his boat at Stockton Lake. The family joke was every time Cathy went to the lake the clouds rolled in, the rain started and everyone would say “Well, Cathy is here.”

Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, Lauren, Sydnie, and Alec, they were her everything! Also spending time with best friend Cindy Gill, and as Cathy referred to them “her peeps,” the Wilsons, the Jones, and the Houshs.

Cathy left a legacy of love, laughter, and was a warrior of God. We will miss her smile that she had until the end. She was an overcomer and cancer did not win.

Preceding Cathy in death was paternal grandparents, Earl and Delores Beisner, uncle, Richard Beisner; maternal grandfather, Al Newton; and aunt, Rama McClary.

Survivors include her husband, Rick Baker, of the home in Nevada; daughter, Lauren Quick, her husband Tyler, and their daughter Ilya of Joplin, Mo.; daughter, Sydnie Baker and Brent Bloom of Joplin, Mo.; and son, Alec Baker and Sydnee Kobel of Joplin, Mo. Also surviving are father, Jerry Beisner and his wife, Jaxcene, El Dorado Springs, Mo.; mother, Sue Beisner of Nevada, Mo.; brother, Mike Beisner, his wife, Christy, and their son, Ethan, of Nevada, Mo.; sister, Pam Huffman of Joplin, Mo.; and her children, Jared and Tessa Huffman of Dallas, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, at Church of God Holiness in El Dorado Springs, Mo., with Pastor Joe Trussell officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Memorials are suggested to her Children’s College Fund or Vernon County Cancer Relief in care of Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
