Carolyn Sue Daugherty, 75, of Springfield passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family following a short period of illness.

Carolyn was born Aug. 6, 1943, and graduated from Nevada High School in 1961. She married Boyd Daugherty and lived and worked in Nevada for 25 years. Carolyn earned her RN degree and worked at the Nevada State Mental Hospital until it closed. After Boyd died in 1989, Carolyn continued to work as an RN in Fulton and Columbia for the State of Missouri. Carolyn retired in 1995 and moved to Springfield to live with her only daughter Clausteele and her family of five.

Carolyn loved following current events, reading, poker, antiquing and collecting Fenton’s and figurines. Carolyn was a nationally ranked Scrabble player online … often finishing in the Top 50 out of 50,000 online competitors. She also loved an occasional trip to the Casino! Carolyn helped raise three grandchildren and eventually five great-grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Grammaw Cookie” Carolyn enjoyed regular playtime with the toddler great-grandchildren.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Wilmoth Wise; her brother, Clark Wise; her sister, Connie Higgenbothum; and her husband, Boyd.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Clausteele and Jeff Gamble; by three grandchildren, Evan, Erin, and Chelsea; and five great-grandchildren, Logan, Bryar, Asher, Bowyn, and Emery.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday March 17, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
