Jerry Lee Garrett, 74, Pleasant Hill, Mo., passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at his home in Pleasant Hill. Jerry was born June 17, 1944, in Kansas City, Mo., to Clay Dean and Cecil Zora (Melton) Garrett.

Jerry grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Southwest High School in 1962. He graduated from the University of Missouri Kansas City, and then served in the United States Air Force for four years from 1967-1971. While in the Air Force Jerry trained in Air Police and later in Air Force Intelligence. Upon his return to Kansas City he once again attended classes at UMKC and began working as a campus Policeman obtaining the rank of Police Chief in 1988. He was a member of the International Campus Law Enforcement Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police, and Missouri Police Chiefs Association.

Jerry was a loyal Chiefs and Royals fan. He enjoyed many years riding his horse Dixie, raising cows and chickens, and sipping a cold one with his trusted dog Maggie. He loved visiting the family acreage in Vernon County, building model trains sets with his kids, fishing, and spending hours gardening and barbecuing. He also enjoyed spending time at “The Lodge” with his good friends Sue and Wade, along with rest of the Wednesday evening crew.

He is survived by three children, Wilson Miller and wife, Dianna, of Long Beach, Calif., Steven Garrett, Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Kristen G. Huffman and husband, Darvell, Lee's Summit, Mo.; two grandchildren, Dylan Huffman and Daniel Miller; sister-in-law, Lucy Garrett of Great Falls, Va.; nephew, Ken Garrett, Broad Run, Va.; three great-nieces; and one great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wilbur Eugene (W.E.) Garrett; and nephew, Mike Garrett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 22, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dederick, Mo. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
