Nevada High School senior Grace Palmer is taking her golf career to the next level.

Palmer inked a letter-of-intent with Cottey College, and head coach Eric Cameron’s golf program.

The signing-day festivities took place Friday afternoon, in front of a throng of students and faculty at the Nevada High media center.

Palmer emerged on the prep golf scene her junior season in 2017, qualifying for the Missouri Class 1 state golf tournament.

Palmer’s senior season prep highlights, included a sixth-place finish at the Big 8 Conference Tournament, seventh-place finish at the Webb City Invitational, and a top 10 finish at the Joplin Lady Eagle Invitational. In addition, Palmer was a sectional-tournament qualifier this past season.

“So excited to have Grace join our golf team,” said Cameron. “Two major reasons I signed her: She is young in her golfing career, and has so much potential; and she has a great personality, always stays positive on the course.”

Added Cameron: “Golf is all about the mental game, and every team could use a personality like Grace’s.”

Cameron, in his first season as the Comets’ head coach, noted that Grace will be team-member No. 5 — and thus, will be able to field a full team next season.

Nevada High golf coach Brian Leonard was also thrilled about Palmer’s signing.

“It’s always exciting to see one of your student-athletes, who you have coached, (earn) the opportunity to play at the collegiate level,” said Leonard. “Grace has an infectious smile and great personality.”

“I wish Grace the best of luck at Cottey, and for her future,” summed up Leonard.

Palmer told the Daily Mail that she’s excited to be joining the Cottey golf program, and looks to continue honing her golf skills during the off-season.
