It was an action-packed afternoon at Bushwhacker Field on Saturday, as a capacity crowd was on hand to witness the inaugural Nevada High School (NHS) Lady Tiger alumni softball game.

The thrilling six-inning contest featured many twists and turns, with the current Lady Tiger squad prevailing over the alumni team, 11-7. Trailing 2-0, the current Lady Tigers trimmed the deficit to a run via sophomore Bailey Ast's second inning 1-out RBI bloop single. Ast's base knock came off former University of Memphis hurler, and 2013 NHS grad Christian Novak. Novak was lights out in the circle, tossed fanning nine, while yielding one (unearned) run, over three frames of work.

Maddie Hedges replaced Novak in the circle in the fourth, and sparked by Abby Harder's double to deep left, the current Lady Tigers erupted for a six-run frame — going on top, 7-2, and eventually increasing their advantage to 11-4.

The alumni team didn't go quietly, plating three runs in the sixth, accounting for the final four-run margin. The festivities also included a ceremony for last season's Lady Tiger district championship squad, as well as the 2010 Class 3 state champion team, plus recognition of the "Next Level Tigers" represented by 19 former NHS softball alumni who played at the collegiate level.
