Nevada doubles duo secures tourney title

Nevada Lady Tiger netters Hallie Short and Eden Fisher scored first-place hardware at Friday's Warrensburg High School doubles tournament.

Competing at No. 1 doubles Short and Fisher coasted to an 8-2 opening-round victory over Higgesville's Jordyn Howard and Lorelai Buford. In the second round, Nevada's formidable tandem edged past Clinton's Reese Potter/Aleksandra Bourag — 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 (tiebreaker). And in the championship match, Short and Fisher toppled Knob Noster's Ella Konrad/Chloe McDonnell — 6-1, 1-6 10-5 (tiebreaker).

Competing at No. 2 doubles Nevada's Alexis Leighty and Abbi Baldwin were derailed in their opening-round match, as Clinton's Josie Douglas and Taylor Clayton took an 8-1 decision. Leighty and Baldwin then fell in a second round matchup against Knob Noster's Rebecca Burch and Madison Eccleton, 8-3.

Competing at No. 3 doubles Nevada's Adi Wilson, Emily Bourassa, and (sub) Baldwin were handcuffed by Bolivar's Addison Martino and McKinley Hedges, 0-8.

The Nevada duo then bounced back in their second round match-up, dispatching Cameron's Serenity Burge and Erica Danner, 8-2.

In the fifth-place match, St. Michael's Leanne Jakobe and Moriah Bruenig collected a 6-0 victory over Nevada's duo. Nevada was also in action a day prior, defeating former West Central Conference foe Kansas City Center, 6-0, in a rain-shortened clash.

Additionally Lady Tiger netters were perfect on the day, winning a trio of singles, and three doubles matches by identical 8-0 scores.
