Nevada City Council met in regular session Tuesday evening, with council members Brian Leonard, Mayor Pro-tem Carol Gallagher, Lyndon Eberhard and Mayor George Knox in attendance. Also present were City Treasurer Kristie Modlin, City Attorney Bill McCaffree, City Manager JD Kehrman and City Clerk Johnna Williams.

The council made several appointments to the Board of Building Appeals. Lynn Calton and Ronald Stratman were appointed with terms to expire in November, 2022. Tom Thorpe and Mary Ireland were appointed with terms expiring in November 2021. Amy Tweten was appointed with a term to end November 2020.

In old business, the council approved on second reading two year lease agreements for 50 acres of hay land at the landfill to Don Dighero ($451) and 50 acres of crop land to Dan Mosher ($6,250). Both Dighero and Mosher were the sole bidders.

In new business, council authorized an agreement with the Vernon County Commission for 2019 real estate and personal property tax billing and collection at a cost to the city of $3,784.

The results of a recent Department of Natural Resources inspection of the abatement project at the old First Baptist Church requires additional materials to be abated and a change to the contract was requested. Tiles in the basement previously considered non-friable have been changed to friable by DNR since they are likely to be broken during removal. They now must be treated as hazardous materials. The council approved an ordinance increasing Gerkin Environmental’s contract amount by $8,461 and the number of work days to complete by two days.

The council entered executive session for reasons in accordance with Section 610.021 RSMo., Subparagraph (3) Hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting of particular employees by a public governmental body when personal information about the employee is discussed or recorded.
