Sheldon sweeps Miami triangular

Entering on a two game losing skid, and having lost five of their previous six matches, the Sheldon Lady Panther volleyball team is back on the winning track — notching a pair victories Monday at the Miami triangular.

Sheldon (8-13-1) opened play with a two-set win over host Miami — 25-18, 25-16. The Lady Panthers then concluded the evening with a decisive two-set defeat of Ballard — 25-12, 25-13.

"This game was an important one for us," said Sheldon head coach Emily Godsey of her squad's tri-match opening win over Miami.

"We had just come off of a rough week, where we lost two games that we probably shouldn't have lost," she said. "We needed to get our momentum back, and I feel like we did that. We were talking, moving as one, helping each other out, and overall — playing very good volleyball."

Said Godsey of the convincing victory over Ballard: "We were on a roll, and had found our groove by the time we played Ballard. We (were in a) serving-groove, and were really working together on the floor to compliment each other. Our hitting game was strong, and I'm really pleased with how well freshman Deborah Lamb is fitting in, and getting her game figured out."

Stat leaders for Sheldon included Mahalia Swink with 34 digs and four aces, Madyson Bogart 10 kills, seven, digs, and an ace; Hailey Hibbitts six digs, four aces, and five kills; and Meckinize McCartney nine digs and a kill.

In other Golden Valley Vernon County Conference (GVVC) action, the Hume Lady Hornets upended the visiting Northeast Vernon County Lady Knights in two sets Tuesday — 25-13, 25-22.

Hume (8-10) is cooking, having reeled of three consecutive victories. The loss, meanwhile, moves NEVC to 6-6 overall.

Against NEVC, Hume was led by Braelynn Morrison with four aces and a kill; Cassidy Rogers, two aces and a kill; Makinizi Harris, one kill and one block; and Abby Harris, one ace.
