Flanked by family and coaches, and in front of the school’s student-body — Sheldon R-8 senior Mahalia Swink is all smiles after signing a national letter-of-intent with Cottey College. Also on hand for the festivities, was Comet head volleyball coach, Marla Kannady-Foreman — pictured back row, left.

It was a grand afternoon on Friday for Mahalia Swink, as the Sheldon High School senior signed a national letter-of-intent with Cottey College — where she will continue her athletic career with the Comet volleyball team. A three-sport athlete, Swink’s prep-career volleyball numbers include 382 service-points, 156 kills, 73 aces, and 39 blocks.

“Playing college volleyball has been a lifelong dream of mine, and I am ecstatic to be given the opportunity to fulfill this dream at such a prestigious school,'' Swink said. “I must give credit to my school, coaches, and parents for teaching me the importance of hardwork and commitment. I am looking forward to continuing my education and athletic career at Cottey College in the fall. Go Comets!”

Swink, who will suit up for the Comets in the fall of 2020, plans on pursuing a major in International Business.

Swink is the second Sheldon product to ink with the Comet volleyball program, with Logan Lamb previously signing in 2016.
