Lady Tigers excel at home swim meet

Friday, January 3, 2020

The Nevada Lady Tiger swim team put forth a strong showing at their lone home swim meet of the season Thursday afternoon, securing a second-place finish at the five-school event, held at Osage Prairie YMCA.

Other schools attending were Carthage, Joplin, Lamar, and Monett.

Lady Tiger head coach Samantha Short said she was pleased with her squad's overall performance.

"Coming off of Christmas (break), there's a lot of hit-and-miss — because people are gone, and on vacation. But a lot of girls dropped time today, so we were pretty excited about it."

Added Short: "The girls are as fast right now as they were at the end of last year — so that bodes well for us."

One Lady Tiger dropping major time, is senior Brynn Wolfe.

"She's close to breaking a minute in the 100 (yard-freestyle)," so that's kind of big," Short noted.

Short said she's recently put together new relay teams. "Maggie Leisure, Emma Leisure, and Hallie Short all swam at their best, or a little better than their best — so that was good for our relays."

Despite the runner-up finish, Short said her squad still has some areas to improve upon.

"I thought our starts tonight were pretty good, but we're still lagging behind on some of our turns. So, we've got to be a little sharper on that if we're going to drop more time."
