Robert Francis Neal “Bob” Hutchison

Friday, December 13, 2019

Robert Francis Neal “Bob” Hutchison was born Sept. 5, 1933, to Ruby May Whitley Hutchison and Walter Howard Hutchison at the home in rural Walker, Mo. He passed away Dec. 10, 2019, at the age of 86 at Moore-Few Care Center as a result of Thyroid Cancer.

Bob was the second of seven children. He went to Mobley School grades one thru eight. He loved the farm, started driving his Dad’s gravel truck before he had a license, milked several cows a day by hand with his mom, and loved to put up square bales of hay. Bob and a neighbor boy bought an old Model T. car that was his first love. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in November of 1953, so he married Margaret Jane Hawkins before he left for basic training at Ft. Riley, Kansas. Bob then shipped to Seoul, South Korea where he fixed the generator that ran the electricity for the base. From then on, he acquired the job of running that generator. One day after coming in from a hike he found a telegram on his bed informing him of his new baby daughter, Deborah Jane. Returning home by ship in November of 1955 Bob farmed and drove a truck. He helped start the C.P.W.S.D No. 1 in Harwood, was on the Walker Bank Board, Walker School Board, ASCS Committee member, Mt. Vernon Cemetery Board, Charter member of 54 Cruisers Car Club and loved calling Square Dances for several years. Bob started buying antique cars and trucks and decided that was easier than farming. He sold the farms and moved back to the original farm place where he collected several hundred cars. He later sold most of the cars which broke his heart and then he had two mini-strokes. After recuperating from two mini-strokes, he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and received treatments for the following three years. He always said he didn’t hurt.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jane, of the home; their four children, Deborah Wallace and her husband, Denny, Nevada, Robert Hutchison and his wife, Karen, of Walnut Grove, Mo., Arlene Good and her husband, Mike, of Nevada, and Kent Hutchison of Camdenton, Mo.
