Cottey suspends face-to-face instruction for remainder of semester

Saturday, March 14, 2020

After talking with local, regional and state officials regarding the COVID-19 situation and how to mitigate the spread of the virus, Cottey College's President’s Council made the decision that it is in the best interest of the College to suspend face-to-face instruction on campus and move to alternative instruction for the remainder of the semester.

According to a statement on the college's website, " We are planning for classes to resume on March 23, but we are asking that all classes move to an online or alternative method to replace the traditional face-to-face classroom instruction. Our leadership has been meeting daily to ensure that our campus community is well taken care of and we know that in this fluid situation more questions and information will be coming out."

For students currently living on campus:

• Students will be able to either live on campus for the remainder of the semester or finish the semester from home.

• If a student chooses to stay on campus, residential campus services will still be provided (dining, housekeeping, security, technology)

• If a student chooses to go home, Cottey will not reimburse any travel expenses.

• If a student would like to stay on campus, they must notify the Director of Housing Cindy Spencer- cspencer@cottey.edu by Wednesday, March 18.

For students currently off campus- Due to returning home during spring break or other travels:

• Students will be required to complete this semester from home and not travel back to campus.

• Students left campus fully intending to return after break and may have personal items in their rooms that are needed to continue their coursework or to manage health conditions. Students who cannot return to campus can request that essential items (such as materials needed for class) be shipped to their permanent residence.

Students may email Connie Allen callen@cottey.edu with their request.

All campus events between March 13 and April 3 will be cancelled. In the coming weeks we will continue to monitor the situation and make announcements regarding future campus events.
