Geraldine Louise (Bankus) Ogle

Geraldine Louise (Bankus) Ogle was born in Sullivan County, Mo., near the town of Milan on March 29, 1916. She entered Heaven’s Gate on March 18, 2020, in Nevada, Mo., at the age of 103. Geraldine was the first born and only daughter of John A. and Betty Blanche (Hays) Bankus. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Geraldine or “Gerry” as she was referred to by friends or “Nanny” to all the rest was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Lester Lofton Ogle; three brothers, Roscoe “Buster” Bankus, Kenneth Bankus, and Dempsey Bankus; and daughter-in-law, Dorothy Ann “Pudgie” Wescoat Ogle. She is survived by her sons, Gary L. Ogle, Russell L. Ogle (Bonnie Beebe), and John L. Ogle (Linda); six grandchildren, Julie Ann Ogle Domer (Mike), Gary Kirk Ogle (Francine), Joni Lyn Ogle (Maggie Howard), Natalie Ann Ogle Johnson (Joey), Wendy Ogle Smith (Will), and Christy Ogle Bloom (Brian); 14 great-grandchildren, James Brantlee Gotschall (Brooke), Shelby Ogle DeSha (Kris), Dori Ogle (Steven), Josiah Johnson, Lexi Johnson Barnes (Neil), Hunter Johnson (Maria), Will Johnson, Gabe Smith, Naomi Smith, Lauren Bloom, Alyssa Bloom, Ryleigh Howard Ogle, Justin Howard Ogle, and Jake Howard Ogle; seven great-great-grandchildren, Tanner Gotschall, Brice Gotschall, Miley DeSha, Brynn Barnes, Kayden Barnes, Korbyn Johnson, and Kennedi Johnson; and too many nieces, nephews, and greats to count!

Geraldine was a Christian and was baptized in a farm pond in north Missouri after accepting Christ at a revival at the age of 16. She and her family joined the First Christian Church in Nevada, Mo., in 1953 where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a cook for the R-5 School District for 16 years and also baby sat for a select few babies. Geraldine held the office of treasurer for the widow’s group of First Christian Church where she was very involved.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 21, at the First Christian Church in Nevada with Pastor Bill Platt officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Christian Church or Heartland Hospice in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
