Denise Maxine Shotts, 50, Fort Scott, Kan., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 22, 2020. She was born on Nov. 6, 1969, in Long Beach, Calif., to Thomas Barker Sr. and Donna (Boyd) Barker. She married John F. Shotts on April 23, 1991, in Nevada, Mo., and he survives the home.

Denise grew up in Nevada and attended Nevada schools. She lived in Fort Scott, Kan., with her family and was a stay-at-home mother and was known as Ammie to her grandchildren throughout her life. Denise enjoyed fishing, going out in her pontoon boat, taking RV trips, and riding on the motorcycle with her husband.

Survivors include her husband, John F. Shotts, of the home: two sons, John Shotts Jr. (Holly) of Kilbourne, La., and Shawn Shotts (Katie) of Fort Scott, Kan.; three daughters, Stephanie Branson (Mike) of Raymore, Mo., Ashley Vandenburg of Fort Scott, Kan., and Sharon Vandenburg of Nevada, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; one sister, Jackie Shepherd (Randy) of Independence, Mo.; two brothers, Thomas Barker Jr. and Jamie Barker, both of Nevada, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Donna Barker, and one brother, Vernon Barker.

Private graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 25, at Newton Burial Park in Nevada with Pastor Don Claphan officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., Friday, at Ferry Funeral Home.

Memorial may be made to the “Sharing Bucket” for the “Elderly in Need” or to the Family in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
