Bonnie Jean Jones passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2020, at the age of 93 in Hockessin, Del. She was born on Dec. 18, 1926, in Arthur, Mo.

Jean will be dearly missed by her son, Bradford and daughter-in-law, Amy, of Hockessin, Del.; sisters, Pat Griffith of Columbia, Mo., and Maxine Morris of Nevada, Mo.; brother, Nick Geary of Winter Park, Fla.; nieces, Marlisa Griffith/Livesay, Becky Blake, Kim Moore, Monta Holt, and Deanna Conway; and nephew, Geary Morris.

Jean was predeceased by her daughter. Andrea; parents, Nick and Mabel Geary; and husband, James Byron Jones.

Jean grew-up in Nevada, Mo., and after graduating from the Nevada High School in 1944 she moved to Kansas City. Following her marriage to James Byron they lived in California, Colorado, and Texas. Her heart was always in Colorado as she loved the mountains and Pikes Peak in particular. Jean worked for the Federal Government for 30 years with most of her time based at the Richard Bolling Federal Building in Kansas City. During this time, she raised her family and lived in Kansas City North and Gladstone. Jean returned to Nevada, Mo., after retirement to be near her two sisters that she loved dearly. Jean moved to Hockessin, Del., in December of 2017 to be near her son and daughter-in-law.

Jean lived a very full and wonderful life and was always ready for adventures. Jean traveled extensively with multiple cruises, cross-country road trips and dude ranches. Jean had many interests including painting, reading, southern cooking, traveling, casinos, horse racing, photography, astrology, and target shooting. In 1962 she won the “High-Lady” of Kansas for her marksmanship. Jean had a natural ability for writing. Her childhood essays were praised, and her annual Christmas letters were always a must-read. Jean was a free spirit in every way, but she was always grounded by love for her family. Jean will be dearly missed by many who love her.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
