Mary Jane Buckner, 85 of Nevada, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at her home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. Mary was born on May 19, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo., to Patrick and Kathryn (Sims) Cushing. She was married to Evertt Buckner on May 25, 1968, in Nevada, Mo., and he survives of the home.

Mary was raised in Kansas City and graduated from Hogan High School in 1952. She worked for the Veterans Administration in Kansas City as a supply clerk retiring after 30 years in 2007. Following their retirements she and Evertt came to Nevada in 2008. Mary enjoyed traveling with Evertt, fishing and deer hunting, participating in her grandchildren’s activities, and most of all loved being with her family.

Survivors in addition to her husband, Evertt, include her children, Ed Garwood and his wife, Cathy, of Nevada, Rita Young of Belton, Mo., Barbara Ann Rapp of the home, Jackie Giannico and David Shearer, Kansas, City, Mo., and Dora Simmons and husband Jeff, Raytown, Mo.; numerous grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Johnson of Bella Vista, Ark., and her twin sister, Sister Marjorie Cushing, Topeka, Kan.; brother-in-law, Stanley Buckner (Linda); sister-in-law, Mary L. Buckner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jack Cushing; and three grandchildren, Misty, Andrew, and Tommy.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Fr. Peter Savidge officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home in her memory.
