NPD investigate Walnut Street stabbing

The Nevada Police Department responded to the scene of a stabbing incident Sunday evening at a residence in the 400 block of West Walnut Street.

After arriving to the disturbance in progress call, NPD found a male subject in the street with multiple stab wounds. According to a press release from the NPD, he was then transported by from the scene by ambulance, and again transported to a a Joplin-area hospital via air ambulance.

Steven Wright, 19, of Amoret, was taken into custody at the scene. Charges filed by the Vernon County Associate Court on Monday against Wright included — First Degree Assault, a class B felony; and Armed Criminal Action, an unclassified felony.

The release noted that Wright is currently being held at the Vernon County jail without bond.

The NPD press release did not name the victim of the alleged stabbing. Other outlets, however, have identified him as Daulton Shepard.

"During an interview with Wright, he said he stabbed the victim with a knife after they had gotten into a confrontation inside a home," according to koamnewsnow.com. "After Shepard became stable and verbal at Freeman Hospital, he told police that the two were in a confrontation and that he punched Wright one time and then Wright pulled a knife out and started to stab him repeatedly."
