Jennie L. Barritt

Monday, October 5, 2020

Jennie L. Barritt, 93, of El Dorado Springs, Mo., passed away quietly on Sept. 29, 2020, shortly after her 93rd birthday. She was anxious to be reunited with Ellis Barritt, her sweetheart of fifty years who passed away in 1996. Jennie and Ellis were married when he returned from the Navy in 1946.

While Jennie had no children, she had lots of “kids” as a lifelong teacher. Her teaching career started in one room school houses and ended thirty-four years later as an eighth grade science teacher in El Dorado Springs. Jennie was an amazing flower gardener with a passion for irises. It is said that she could poke a stick in the ground and it would grow. She loved to give tours of her flower gardens and was always the teacher giving lessons about what each flower was and where it came from.

Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis; her brother, Austin Marquis; and her parents, Samuel and Stella Marquis.

Survivors include her sister, Margaret Boyles of Rapid City, S.D.; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the staff and Morningside Assisted Living Center in Nevada and Heartland Hospice.

A graveside service for Jennie Barritt was held on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m., at Clintonville Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Kyle Vickers, Ben Vickers, Lowell Wilson, Greg Hoffman, Anthony Hoffman, and Jeremi McCormick.

Even though Jennie loved flowers she asked that memorials be made to the El Dorado Springs Library Fund and left at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.blandhackleman.com.
