Linda Jane “Janie” Thomas

Linda Jane Thomas, 69, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020, at her home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. Janie was born Oct. 22, 1951, in Broken Arrow, Neb., to John T. and Evelyn (Elliott) Friel. She was united in marriage to Dennis Thomas on June 15, 1969, in Walker, Mo., and he preceded her in death in 2012.

Janie attended school in Rich Hill, Mo., and graduated from Walker High School Class of 1969. She spent most of her adult life in Nevada where she was primarily a homemaker. Janie enjoyed baking and cake decorating. She also enjoyed volunteering with the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, being a 4-H mother, and was always there to donate blood. Janie especially loved being with her family. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nevada.

Survivors include three children, Chuck Thomas (Regina), Carthage, Jennifer Thomas, Nevada, and Justin Thomas (Nik Nelson), Joplin; two grandchildren, Jessica Thomas, Columbia, Mo., and Dalton Thomas, Nevada; mother, Evelyn Friel, Jefferson City, Mo.; five siblings, Jim Friel (Joan), Simpsonville, S.C., Judy Ayers (Tom), Iantha, Mo., Jerry Friel (Jill), Asbury, Mo., Joleen Lieneke (Robert), Jefferson City, Mo., and Jeff Friel, Jefferson City, Mo.; sister-in-law, Connie Garren, Nevada; and brother-in-law, Charles Thomas (Charlotte), Kansas City, Mo.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 27, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Nevada, Mo., with Father Peter Savidge officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m., at Ferry Funeral Home prior to the service on Friday.
