Henry Jay Petitt

Henry Jay Petitt, 73, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. Henry was born on March 7, 1947, in Spearfish, S.D., to Lawrence and Mary Rose (Kaubisch) Petitt. He married Barbara Katherine Hedge on Sept. 21, 1972, in St. Charles, Mo., and she survives of the home.

Henry was raised in Spearfish and graduated from Spearfish High School. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam era. Henry came to Nevada in 1994 to work in the logging business for the Lawrence family where he worked up until the time of his illness.

In addition to his wife Barbara, survivors include his four children, Gaylene Buckner, Gene Petitt (Lori), Paul Petitt (Lisa), and Lindsey Petitt; nine grandchildren, Nate Petitt, Kaylah Johnson (Jeremiah), Colton Harris, Jordan Moses (Tyler), Lane Petitt, Rivers Petitt, Dylan Petitt, Holden Petitt and Hannah Petitt; nine great-grandchildren, Elizabeth (Bambi) Franklin, Joseph Franklin, Kewper Petitt, Hayzel Johnson, Merlin Johnson, Lauretta Moses, Sophyia Moses, Henry Moses, and Christopher Chadd; siblings, Chris Petitt (Louise), Kingsville, Mo., Larry Petitt, Thailand, Edith (Zabrisko) Short, Mills, N.J., Rosella Thompson, N.C., Toni and Lindy Kidd, S.D., Sharon Chanove, Nevada, Sheila Barry, Longview, Texas, Ed Petitt (Helen), Colo., Patrick Petitt, Spearfish, S.D., Barbie Jo (Steven) Wis.; and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

Private services will held on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
