Dog show to be held Saturday of Bushwhacker Days
The Bushwhacker Days Committee has announced that it will be hosting a Dog Show from 2 to 4, Saturday, June 12, at the annual weekend of festivities.
According to the Dog Show Committee Chair Brent Mendenhall, the purpose of the dog show is the same as Bushwhacker Days — it's a chance for the members of the community to get out and socialize with others in the community. It also gives dogs the chance to socialize with each other. "There are enough dog owners in the area that we hope we can have a good turnout," noted Mendenhall.
The show will take place near the open lot on the north side of the Nevada Square. Doggie wading pools and fresh water will be provided.
The show is sponsored by the local veterinarians and several local merchants. All of the prizes will be dog food they donated. There will also be treat bags for all the dogs.
It is noted that this is a friendly dog show with children around — community members are asked to not bring aggressive dogs. All dogs must also be vaccinated and on a leash.
The wiener dog races will be held on Bill McCaffree's grass lot on the north side of the Nevada Square. The race track is a straight line, around 80 feet long. It starts at the north edge of the grass and runs to the sidewalk. Other breeds may be ran if enough dachshunds do not show up.
Categories for judging now include biggest and smallest dogs, best dressed, and best dog trick. Mendenhall noted that, with suggestions from attendees, other categories will be determined the day of the show. All judging will be by audience applause.
"We hope we have a good attendance and that all dog owners and their dogs have a good time," stated Mendenhall.
