Susan Violet Geertsen, 63, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., following a brief illness. Susan was born May 26, 1958, in La Crosse, Wis., to Walter F. and Betty Jane (Spence) Hayes. She was united in marriage to Barry Geertsen on March 20, 1993, in the LDS Temple in Dallas, Texas, and he survives of the home.

Susan was raised in Nevada, Mo., where she spent most of her life. She attended Nevada High School and Missouri Southern State College in Joplin. Following college, Susan worked several years at Cigna Life Insurance Company. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was an avid mushroom hunter, and enjoyed cooking, shopping, and photography. Susan loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren. Family was the most important thing in her life, and she was known to be a generous, kind, thoughtful, and selfless person. She was dearly loved and will be dearly missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, as well as many other family and friends.

In addition to her husband Barry, she is survived by five children, Chris Brundridge (Lesley), Mattoon, Ill., James Brundridge, Jason Brundridge, Candi Huff, and Samantha and her fiancée, (Jason Smith), all of Nevada; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Austin, Cody, Curren, Traiton, Haley, and Joseph; five great-grandchildren; Audree, Parker, Rhys, Rhett, and Jamie; two brothers, Walter “Rick” Hayes (Theresa), Freeman, Ml., and William “Bill” Hayes (Desiree), Nevada; four sisters, Sharon Wolfe, Lawrenceville, Ga., Alice Cook (Ben), Nevada, Debbi Scotten (Dirk), Nevada, Betty Harp (Terry), Kansas, Okla.; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Mark Hayes.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 26, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with Bishop Tim Claypool officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
