LuCreta Delores Scism

LuCreta Delores Scism, 74, Nevada, Mo., passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022, in Nevada, Mo. LuCreta was born March 23, 1947, in Nevada, to Jesse L. and Alta E. (Hogan) Harper. She married Ray Dean Scism on Dec. 30, 1966, in Nevada, and he survives of the home.

LuCreta grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1965. She was a wonderful homemaker, wife, and mother. LuCreta enjoyed traveling with Ray Dean on business trips when he worked at 3M Nevada. The many places they visited included Canada, Mexico, and the East Coast. She loved antiques, and flower gardening. LuCreta, known as “Nan," provided Daycare for all of her grandchildren until they started school.

In addition to her husband, Ray Dean of the home, she is survived by two children, Kristi Lynn Kutina, Nevada, and Shane Anthony (Sandie) Scism, Nevada; three grandsons, Casey Dwayne Hardin, Nevada, Brantley Shane Scism, Springfield, Mo., and Blake Lee Kutina, Enumclaw, Wash.; one granddaughter, Braelyn Renea Scism, Kansas City, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Ryker and Sophia; one brother, Delton Ray Harper, Independence, Mo.; four sisters, Melva Schiefer, Burlington, Iowa, Glenda Emmett, Las Vegas, Nev., Robin Scism (Larry), Nevada, and Catherine Harper, Liberty, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jessie Winters, and Mary Harper; two brothers, Lawrence G. Harper and Lonnie Coleman Harper; two infant brothers, Homer Clifton and Kenden Lee Harper; stepfather, Arthur Brock; two nieces and one nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 25, at Ferry Funeral Home with Ray Dean Scism officiating. Private interment will follow in Brasher Cemetery in Jerico Springs. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in LuCreta’s memory to Heartland Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

A dinner will follow the interment at the Eagles in Nevada at 1:30 p.m.
