Senior Owen Swearingen for the Nevada Tigers, who was competing in the MSHSAA State Class 3 Golf Championship Tournament at the Sedalia Country Club in Sedalia, Mo., finished in a tie for third place Wednesday afternoon. Swearingen finished only one stroke away from capturing the first place spot. He tied with Christian Rischer from Father Tolto Catholic High School in Columbia, Mo. Swearingen and Rischer will actually be roommates/teammates for the Missouri State University Bears golf team in Springfield, this upcoming fall. “Great season and career at Nevada High School for Owen Swearingen,” said Head Coach for the Nevada Tiger boys golf team Brian Leonard.

“The tournament had a lot better competition compared to the regular season events,” said Swearingen, talking about competing at the State Tournament for the final time. “I tried to enjoy every moment knowing it was my last state tournament. Coach Leonard has really helped me in being prepared for every tournament this year. I felt that I practiced and prepared as well as I could, but the second day my putts just weren’t falling.” Swearingen will now be shifting his focus from high school golf, to playing for the Missouri State University Bears golf team in a couple of months.
