Jimmie Doris (Hunter) Rice, 89, of Nevada, Mo., passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Jimmie, or Tiny as she was known to many people, was born Nov. 20, 1932, in Dimmitt, Texas, to Finis E. and Myrtis Faye (Norman) Hunter.

Jimmie grew up in West Texas, and she graduated from Dimmitt High School in 1949. On July 25, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, Lonnie Rice, in Dimmitt. Lonnie and Jimmie became parents to five sons born in the panhandle of Texas from 1951 to 1962.

Jimmie and family moved to Nevada in March 1963, where they farmed and raised cattle with her father and on their own for many years, while supporting their sons in all of their sports and other extra-curricular activities in the Nevada schools.

For more than 20 years, Jimmie was a farm loan clerk at the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office in Nevada, where she took great pride in helping Vernon County’s farmers navigate the USDA farm programs.

Especially after retirement, Jimmie loved nothing more than getting in her car or on a plane and heading out across the country or overseas for great adventures. Her wall was adorned with memorabilia from her travels to more than a dozen countries.

For many years, Jimmie was a strong supporter of Cottey College through her involvement with P.E.O., and of the Vernon County Youth Fair through Diana’s. Jimmie was also a long-time member of the United Methodist Church in Nevada.

Survivors include son, Bruce Rice (Debra) of Nevada, their daughters, Katie Rice of Indianapolis, Ind., and Lindsay Kerbs (Jordan) of Prairie Village, Kan., and great-granddaughter, Madilyn Jane Kerbs; son, Jim Rice (Kelly) of North Richland Hills, Texas; son, Mike Rice of Chicago, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Doris Rice (Gregg) of McQueeny, Texas, their children, William Rice (Amy) of San Antonio, Texas, Drew Liles (Bethany) of Nevada, Mo., and Hollie Liles Kelly (Kyle) of San Diego, Calif., and great-grandchildren, Raleigh Kelly, Kameron Kelly, Josie Liles, Emmitt Liles, and Juliette Liles. Jimmie is also survived by one niece, Marsha Markham of Seneca, Mo., and a number of great-nieces and -nephews, as well as their children.

Jimmie was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie; two of her sons, Steve and Gregg; her sister, Norma Johns; and her nephew, Dennis Markham (Toni).

A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with a private graveside service to follow.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
