Richard Ray Baynes, of Nevada, MO, went to be with Jesus at Moore-Few Care Center, Saturday, July 30, 2022. He was born on December 2, 1933, at Ft. Scott, KS Mercy Hospital to Raymond C. Baynes and Opal Ruth (Carter) Baynes of Deerfield, MO.

Richard attended elementary school in Deerfield, MO, Ft. Scott, KS and two Vernon County rural schools, Peasant Ridge and Star. His freshman year of high school was at Walker, MO and graduated in 1952 from Nevada High School. His favorite classes were AG and enjoyed FFA and shop. He made several items, but a cedar chest was a beautiful work. His first job was as a stock boy at Maxwell’s Grocery. His first job driving a semi-truck was for Horace Johnson, hauling grain. He owned and operated an MFA Service Station for a few years, then bought his own semi-rig and was an over the road truck driver, hauling and pulling various loads.

Richard enjoyed speed boating and had lots of fun on the lakes. Another interest in his younger years was drag racing his Ford Interceptor at Pittsburg, KS races and brought home a trophy or two. Motorcycles were another hobby of his, but later in life, he said it became more dangerous to be out on the road now.

Richard was quite a man and usually stayed in the background, just listening to conversations. He was a meek and humble tender-hearted man. He was concerned about his family even while he was so ill. He loved the Lord and attended Central Christian Center, Joplin, MO, where he was baptized before he came to Nevada to care for his ailing mother. He will be deeply missed.

Richard is survived by his sister, Kay Coiner and her husband Larry, Neosho, MO; two nephews, Brian Coiner, Neosho and Eric Coiner and his wife Sarah, Olathe, KS; two great nephews, Aiden and Liam Coiner, Olathe, KS, and one great niece, Emma Coiner, Olathe, KS; and several cousins sprinkled across the U.S.A. People very special to him are Katherine Howery, Ralph Underwood, and Jerry Heathman, who helped him in so many ways. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2022, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Doug Wilderson. Interment will follow in Deerfield Cemetery. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home. You may view obituary and send condolences online at www.ferryfuneralhome.com.
