Martha Benita Caviness

Martha Benita Caviness, 81, Nevada, Mo., passed from this life on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022, at Medicalodges, Nevada, following a brief illness. Martha was born April 27, 1941, in Oakland, Calif., to Ralph and Margaret Juanita (Gray) Bejar. She was united in marriage to Joseph Dean Caviness on Sept. 18, 1960, in Millbrae, Calif., and Joe survives in the home.

Martha met Joe while he was serving in the U. S. Navy at Treasure Island (San Francisco), Calif. She lived and worked in California most of her adult life. At age 50, the couple moved to Nevada. She provided in-home care and also worked for Skills Unlimited for a time. She retired at age 80. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nevada.

In addition to her husband Joe, she is survived by daughter, Elizabeth M. Whetzell (Tracy), Milo, Mo.; son, Jeffrey Caviness, Springville, Calif.; a sister, Anna Rose Hoofring, state of Ohio; grandchildren, Hannah Caviness, Katy Caviness, Jacob Caviness, and Kara Irwin (Houston); great-grandchildren, Lillianne Irwin, Lennon Irwin; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Janet Gray and Marilyn Phillips.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Father Tom Hermes officiating. Friends may call after 1 p.m., Wednesday. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service.
