Tommy Lee Haynes

Tommy Lee Haynes, 90, Nevada Mo., passed on to his heavenly home on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022. Born in Macon, Ill., Feb. 10, 1932, to parents John and Mary Haynes.

Tommy entered the Air Force in January 1951 and was stationed in Hawaii where he met his future bride, Ruth Kirkpatrick, and served until October 1953. The two had correspondence through the mail for a year and a half and upon his return to stateside, the couple was married two weeks later to form a legacy that lasted 68 years until her death. They resided in Decatur, Ill., where he was an accountant. They welcomed their first daughter, Linda, moved to Florida and welcomed their only son, Tony. Moving back to Decatur to start a construction business with his father and older brother, they welcomed their second daughter, Lisa.

In 1966, the family moved to California to attend LIFE Bible College. Following graduation, the family moved to Findlay, Ohio, where Tommy pastored his first church. He has pastored in Montana, N.D., and in 1988 moved to Nevada, Mo., where he pastored Anchor Fellowship for 33 years. Tommy also oversaw the operations of maintenance in several nursing homes until his retirement at the age of 80. Following his calling from God, he retired from pastoring in church at the age of 87.

Tommy is survived by his three children, Linda Atkins, of Golden, Mo., Tony Haynes (Cathy Haynes) of Rolla, Mo., and Lisa Kirschenmann of Nevada; 14 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way; one brother, Jerry Haynes (Pam) of Gulf Port, Miss.; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Kirkpatrick) Haynes; his son-in-law, Tony Atkins; his parents, John and Mary Haynes; two brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 3, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with the Rev. Jerod Lamb and the Rev. Jason Kirschenmann officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at 12:30 p.m., in the National Cemetery, in Fort Scott, Kan. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m., Sunday afternoon, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
