City council candidate filing deadline approaching

Wednesday, October 26, 2022

The deadline for filing for one of two open Nevada City Council seats is right around the corner.

So far, according to the Nevada City Clerk, four candidates have filed for the two expiring City Council seats. These candidates include Jack Somers, Wayne Blunt, Janie Conroy and incumbent Kendall Vickers.

Filing closes at 5 p.m., on Nov. 1. For more information, call Nevada City Hall at (417) 448-5115.

If there are five or more candidates filing, a primary election will be held on Feb. 7, 2023, with the general election scheduled for April 4, 2023.

The Nevada City Council consists of five members elected at large by the voters of the City for three-year terms. The City Council selects one of its members to serve as Mayor, who chairs City Council meetings and serves as the spokesperson for the City Council.

The City Council also selects a member to serve as Mayor Pro Tem, who assumes mayoral responsibilities in the mayor’s absence.
