Loretta Jane Cherry

Loretta Jane Cherry, 86, of Nevada, passed away at the Strafford Care Center in Strafford, Mo., on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023. She was born on April 24, 1936, in Nevada, and was raised by Loren and Bessie (True) Wade. Loretta was raised in the Walker area and attended Walker High School where she excelled in Basketball. She was valedictorian and graduated with the class of 1954.

Loretta was married to Jack Cherry and from this union her two sons, Doug and David were born. Loretta worked for Farm and Home Savings for a time, as an assistant for Dr. Ben Mendenhall for several years, Cotty College in Nevada, and retired from the Nevada State Hospital. 

Survivors include her two sons, Doug Cherry and his wife Carla of Kansas City, Mo., and David Cherry and his wife Kori of Nevada; seven grandchildren, Dillon Cherry, Shane Cherry, Jacob Cherry, Austen Cherry, Walker Cherry, Alison Bower, and Emalie Bower; eight grandchildren, Atticus Cherry, Amelia Cherry, Nathaniel Cherry, Nicholas Watson, Cronin Cherry, Legend Cherry, Kaden Willis, and Dash Cherry; one sister, Carol Spillars of Jefferson City, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters, and her companion of many years, Jack Dade. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with Pastor Roger Beach officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to11 a.m., prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Newton Burial Park, Nevada.
