Nellie Jo Boyd

Nellie Jo Boyd, 89, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Feb. 19, 2023, at Moore-Few Care Center, in Nevada. Nellie was born Nov. 22, 1933, in Pleasant Hill, Mo., to Ernest P. and Mabel W. (Kincaid) Bricker. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Boyd on July 26, 1951, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death in 1988.

Nellie was raised in Pleasant Hill. Her senior year of high school she moved to Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1951. Primarily a homemaker, in her later years Nellie worked at Cottey College and Community Outreach. She volunteered for many years with the Auxiliary of the Nevada Regional Medical Center. In addition, she was active with the Nevada Elks Doe’s for many years, the Glory Choir at First Baptist Church, and served as a Nevada Housing Authority Board Member. Nellie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nevada.

Nellie is survived by two sons, Tim Boyd, Nevada, Mo., and Michael Boyd (Leslie), Kansas City, Kan.; three nieces, Diane Zeman (John), Olathe, Amy Bricker-Scott (Terry), Raytown, Mo., and Lilas Scott (Kenneth), Liberty, Mo. In addition to her husband Lloyd, she was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Willard Bricker.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with Dr. Bill Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, prior to the service.

Memorials are suggested in her name to Good Shepherd Hospice in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
