Friday, March 3, 2023

The Farm to Fork Summit and Expo comes to Nevada, Mo., today. It’s the fifth annual local foods get together for the western Missouri and eastern Kansas region.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., today, at the Nevada Community Center. It’s for farmers, businesses, and consumers interested in local foods and regenerative agriculture.

Speakers will share on-the-ground experience with new local food crops and markets, and agricultural practices. Keynote presenters will discuss and demonstrate the potential for local food and regenerative agriculture to grow jobs, build health, and protect land.

Event highlights will include door prizes, an all-local food lunch prepared by the world-champion Osceola FFA barbeque team, and hands-on demonstration of small farm tools and systems.

The emcee of the event will be Kyle Vickers. He has been the host of Show-Me Ag, KMOS TV, since 2002. His extensive background in family farming, as well as agriculture policy, gives him unique insight into many issues facing farmers today. A life-long farmer, Kyle served as Deputy Director at the Missouri Department of Agriculture from 1993 until 2001, and as a Kellogg Food and Society Fellow from 2001 – 2003. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri – Columbia. Kyle farms near El Dorado Springs, where he raises soybeans, corn, and cattle. He and his wife Debra have three grown sons.

The opening keynote speaker will be Andrew McCrea. He is a farmer, nationally syndicated broadcaster and a frequent speaker at events across the country. He is the fifth generation in his family to farm in northwest Missouri. He travels on-location for the stories he shares on the air and with audiences, providing him with real world experiences that provide insights on how we can better our communities, work and lives.

The event will feature several break-out sessions throughout the day with multiple speakers. A barbecue lunch will be provided by the Osceola FFA.
