Walker Mayor Harold Walter called the Walker City Council Meeting to order on Monday evening, March 27. City Clerk Susan Thompson distributed a detailed handout about the upcoming Water Works and Sewerage System Revenue Bond issue to all attendees, stressing the bond's importance and noting that if it doesn't pass, the city will not be able to apply for grants to fix its sewer issues.

The board approved necessary monthly items before discussing the city ordinance during their March 20 Council Work Session Day. The board voted to keep the city ordinance as is.

Thompson informed the board that she had contacted CenturyLink to implement after-hours, 24/7 phone service for emergencies. CenturyLink said they could add phone forwarding to their phone system for an additional $4.65 per month. The board approved the addition of the phone forwarding system.

Regarding last month's vending machine issue, the city resident who installed the pop machine paid the board $489, which they accepted and thanked the resident for. They requested the resident bring a new contract to next month's meeting, stating they will pay the city quarterly and that their payment will go towards the Park Fund. The resident agreed.

The board approved the request by Walker's 4-H Club to install a television on one of the walls in City Hall.

Mayor Walter informed the board that their contract with the city of Nevada for emergency lab testing services on their water had been approved.

Alderman Clint Swope reported that the city’s storm sirens needed to be replaced. He spoke with an individual from Table Rock Lake who advised him that a new siren would cost approximately $22,000 and meet all compliance levels required. Swope also noted that there were grants available for the purchase.

Thompson reported that they received a late bid from Ashbey Services for $25 on the city’s scrap metal, which the board accepted and approved.

Mayor Walter informed the board they had received an unsolicited mowing bid. After reviewing the bid, the board declined it, noting that it was too high.

Maintenance Worker Russell Hayes reported that the outside women’s restroom was vandalized during the last food truck drive the city had. He put a padlock on the restroom and the hydrant, which an individual had stolen 300 gallons of water from. Hayes also stated that he installed cameras to catch those who commit these acts.

Swope reported they distributed 145 boxes at the last food drive and that Coordinator of the Food Drive Dana Redburn will start bringing 150 boxes every month from now on.

Thompson advised the board they will have to pay $1,400.48 to cover the first 12 weeks of unemployment for a past employee who has filed unemployment. They will have to pay another $1400.48 for another 12 weeks in the near future.

Hayes advised the board that the city’s tractor needed servicing, and the lowest bid he received to do the service work was $400. The board approved for him to find a qualified individual at a reasonable rate to do the service work. Hayes also noted repairs and padlocking needed to be done to the playground equipment in the park and how he mowed the city park for the first time today. The board approved his reports.

Thompson reported that the Walker Community Betterment Committee will be hosting a Breakfast Feed on Saturday, April 8, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., in the Walker Community Building, followed by an Easter Egg Hunt in the City Park hosted by the Walker 4-H Club. The board approved to adjourn the meeting, with next month’s meeting scheduled for April 24.
