David Ray Dowell, 77, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Moore-Few Care Center, in Nevada, following a short illness. David was born Nov. 8, 1945, in Nevada, to Sydney C. and Betty B. (Rinehart) Dowell.

David graduated from Fallbrook Union High School, Fallbrook, Calif., in 1964. Following high school, he served in the United States Navy, with a rank of Electrician’s Mate Second Class, until his Honorable Discharge in 1970. During his time in the service, he continued his education through the Naval School specializing in motion pictures, 16 mm operators, computer programming and systems.

David’s employment included a position in programming and promotions with the Coca-Cola Company during the 1970s and 80s. He also worked and trained for IBM in computer applications programming.

David was a member of the First Christian Church where he attended and was baptized during his elementary school days here in Nevada. He retired and settled in Seguin, Texas, where he was a member and Exalted Ruler of the BPOE Elks in Seguin. He was also active in the American Legion VFW, and the Neptune Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Judy Dowell. David is survived by his cousins, Kathy and Sonny Butler, and Susie and Bill Platt, of Nevada, Mo.; and a close friend, Avanell (Charlie) Klepper of Seguin, Texas.

Graveside committal services with Military Funeral Honors will be held at 10:30 a.m, Tuesday, May 23, at Newton Burial Park, in Nevada, with Pastor Bill Platt officiating.
