Griffons lose out to Renegades 6-4

Tuesday, June 20, 2023

The Nevada Griffons took yet another loss today, and it was by a familiar team of the Jefferson City Renegades.

Things did start off good when No. 4 Benjamin Loyd hit a solo homerun in the top of the first to give the Griffons a 1-0 lead, but by the second inning, the Renegades battled back to score a run, tying the game at 1-1. Nevada’s No. 10 Greydon Miller hit a double in the top of the fourth that sent No. 8 London Penland and No. 9 Carter Gallagher around the bases to score, giving Nevada the upper edge with a lead of 3-1. The Griffons held on to their lead into the top of the sixth, when No. 22 Sam Kwapnioski singled, allowing Penland to score, now having a 4-1 lead.

Then came the downfall for Nevada, or the uprise for Jefferson City. The Renegades were able to score a run in the bottom of the seventh, and four runs in the bottom of the eighth, to take the lead of 6-4. The Griffons couldn’t battle back, and scored their 10th loss of the year.

Nevada will host the Joplin Outlaws Wednesday evening at Lyons Field Wednesday evening, with first pitch schedule to take place at 7 p.m.
