Mary Ann Hendrix, 94, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at the Joplin Gardens in Joplin, Mo. Mary Ann was born Oct. 30, 1928, to James Matthew Wallace and Olive Angel (Sheffield) Wallace in Fort Scott, Kan. They lived in Bronaugh, Mo., where she graduated from high school in 1946. She then attended college at Kansas State Teacher’s College in Pittsburg, Kan. She taught school until she married William Arthur Mische in Springfield, Mo., on April 25, 1948.

She went back to school and got her LPN license in 1964 and worked at Nevada State Hospital in Nevada, Mo. In September of 1959 her husband, Arthur, died of leukemia.

Arthur and Mary Ann had three children, James Huston Mische, William Edward Mische, and Brenda Sue Mische Yokley.

Mary Ann married Robert J. Hendrix on Jan. 11, 1965, and they had a son, Robert Jay Hendrix. They made their home in Nevada. Robert died July 21, 1995.

After her retirement she volunteered with several organizations in Nevada. She loved going to garage sales and thrift shops. She also had a great love for her flowers. In addition, she also decorated cakes. In her younger years she was involved in several ladies’ clubs where she enjoyed quilting, sewing, recipes, and exchanging the “neighborhood news!”

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Olive Wallace; her sister, Betty Wallace Middleton; and her son, William Mische. Mary Ann is survived by her son, James Huston Mische (Joan); daughter, Brenda Sue Mische Yokley (Wayne), and Robert Jay Hendrix (Linda); 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; as well as many friends and relatives.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 21, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with Pastor Terry Mosher officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested in her name to “Meals on Wheels” in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
