Upcoming Sheldon Picnic discussed at Thursday night Aldermen meeting
The Sheldon Board of Aldermen gathered on Thursday evening, Aug. 10, led by Mayor Becky Morgan. The meeting focused on important matters, including finances and upcoming community events.
During the discussion on finances, Alderman Gene Leininger raised a question. He wanted to know why the trash bill keeps getting more expensive every month. City Clerk Tammy Goodwin explained that the increasing prices of fuel are causing the rise in trash bills. Mayor Morgan further clarified that depreciation expenses for both July and August cannot be recorded in the same month's financial records. They must be separated according to the specific months they apply to. After addressing these concerns, the board members approved the financial reports. No other miscellaneous comments were made.
Eileen Leininger, representing the Community Betterment Committee, provided an update. She informed the council about upcoming fundraisers during the Sheldon Picnic, scheduled for Aug. 17-19. One event planned is a Bingo game, set to take place on Friday night. Everyone has been assigned shifts for their work. Another highlight is the Pie Auction, where four to six delicious pies will be auctioned off. The board showed their approval and gratitude for Eileen Leininger's report.
With no reports from the fire department or maintenance team, the discussion turned to unfinished matters from previous meetings. Mayor Morgan shared news about an upcoming visit from a Financial Advisor/Interim from D.A. Davidson, who will address the board regarding their lagoon issue in the next month's meeting. The board members approved of this plan.
In terms of new business, the board decided to hold a Tax Levy Hearing meeting on Aug. 24 to discuss financial matters. Additionally, it was noted that the rides and inflatables at the Sheldon Picnic will be free of charge. The board members gave their approval to these decisions and agreed to adjourn the meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 14.
